What to eat something other than chicken rice in Malacca?
Let's try something different. No more limited to just chicken rice whenever you eat in Malacca. For more Malacca food hunt, click HERE.
Nancy's Kitchen serves Nyonya Peranakan food. Some claimed, any dish from the menu is good. So, just drop by Nancy's Kitchen and pick anything from the menu.
So, I was in Malacca and stop by at Nancy's Kitchen for late lunch. Since it's our first visit, we picked familiar dishes from the menu.
Cendol is a must try! Generous amount of coconut milk makes the cendol tastes so good. I've been tasting quite a number of cendol's' along Jonker Street and I found my favourite in Nancy's Kitchen. RM3 for a small potion of cendol, but I think it's worth to every penny. No special or fancy ingredients, just a very authentic Nyonya cendol with red bean, gula melaka, 'green worms'. *Thumbs up*
Popiah (Spring Rolls). The filling was nicely wrapped in the skin which I find it not too thick and not too thin. As for the filling, good flavour combinations. RM 3 each.
This top hat looking thing is actually called Kueh Pie Tee. It's the fried crisp shell with filling. The filling uses the similar filling as the popiah. However, I was surprised with the spicy chili sauce in Kueh Pie Tee because the popiah was less spicy. Anyway, it was good. A fresh dish to me. RM 4.50 for this potion.
Next, Laksa. The authentic Nyonya Laksa. Ohhmmmp! Delicious. So far, nothing can beat this in Malacca. Dont compare this with those in Penang, they dont taste the same. This is something you will taste and go 'Ohmp'. A great dish for those who enjoys rich flavours. It smells good and tastes good! *slurps*
Last, the reason for our visit. Ayam Pongteh! You can always pick for Babi Ponteh, they are equally good. But we opted for Ayam Ponteh. I've never tasted any Ponteh, so I do not have much expectation but i'm totally excited about these Pontehs ever since I watch 'Little Nyonya' on TV. From the colour, I was expecting something like Bak Kut Teh, but I was wrong. The gravy was thick, and the chicken was tender. This is not spicy, just nice for kids and adults. And again rich flavour with aromatic spicies which you may want to dry up the whole bowl of gravy. This Ponteh is RM10 for small.
Our bill was RM32.55 with 5% service charge.
Anyway, I was surprised with the taste at first bite in every dishes. Nancy's Kitchen is something I will crave for more! Will be back for more! I will want to try their Nyonya Kuih next time.
We bought some Nyonya ba chang too. I love it. The Nyonya Ba Chang was white with some blue colouring. The flling used was minced meat. Definitely different from the usual Ba Chang, those varies ingredient. It wasnt salty like those common ones too. Just delicious from the first bite to the last bite. LOVE IT!
